Dr. Schlotter is a native of South Texas. He graduated Summa Cum Laude from the University of Texas in 1976. He attended medical school at the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston graduating in the top 10% of his class. He went onto do post graduate training at John Peter Smith Hospital in Fort Worth. He then completed a General Surgery residency in 1989 and was a chief resident at The university of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio. Dr. Schlotter is a member of Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society, a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, an active member of the Texas Medical Association, the Tri-Country Medical Society. In the past he has served as Chairperson for the Surgery Department at Central Texas Medical Center. He maintains current certification with the American Board of Surgery.

Dr. Schlotter has been in private practice since 1989. He has specialized in general and vascular surgery full time in San Marcos since 1992. His special interests include the treatment of arterial and venous disorders, complex laparoscopic procedures and surgical oncology.
